The "Santos Niņos" Cathedral is the original centre of the town, which grew around the Cathedral. It was originally constructed as a small chapel on the place where the Saint Children Justo and Pastor where buried. Currently it holds the label of Magisterial Cathedral, the only one in the world, together with the Cathedral of Saint Peter (Lovaina, Belgium). To be a Magisterial Cathedral means that two thirds of its council must by composed of Universitary Phds., selected by the University, whilst the rest was nominated by the Archbishop. The reason was to avoid the problem caused by teachers of theology at the Univeristy, getting retired.
