BASÍLICA OF SAN VICENTE
The basilica of San Vicente, is the most important romanic building in Avila. Located beyond the city-walls, in the northern part of the city-wall, it was built in the 12th Century, in honor of the martyr and his sisters. It took two centuries to finalise the construction. It has two fronts. The southern portico contains an allegory to the fight between vice and virtue; the main portico contains the figures of the apostles and very detailed sculptures. Within the inside there are three naves built on pilasters and the sepulcher of San Vicente, decorated with nice relieves which represent the martyr alike life of the Saint.
