THE BANK OF SPAIN
The Bank of Spain is located in one of the most emblematic places of Madrid, and is one of the most beautiful buildings. Built between 1884 and 1891, it is worth seeing the wrought iron decorative elements top the building and decorate the balconies. Recently developed restauration works have brought back to the building the appearence that it had in the 19th Century.
CIBELES SQUARE
The fountain marks the limits between the Alcalá street and the Prado avenue. It is dedicated to the Greco-Roman Goddess of Nature, represented by a cart that is pulled by two lions. This sculpture, together with the bear and the strawberry tree that can be found at the Puerta del Sol, integrate the coat of arms of Madrid. The square is bordered by four important buildings: the Palace of Communications, the Palace of the Marquises of Linares, in the North-east corner, the Army Headquarters and, opposite to it, the Bank of Spain. Since some time ago, it is traditional to celebrate in this square the victories of the Real Madrid (football team).
