ALCALÁ´S DOOR
The “Door of Alcalá” is the most representative monument of King Carlos III’s mandate and its idea of renewing the Eastern side of the city. The construction of the Door of Alcalá began in 1769 and lasted for nine more years. With a Neo-classic style it was built with granite and is ended by a large pediment and decorated with military themes. Unitl mid 19th century, this door indicated the eastern border of the city. Currently it presides the Indepency square, next to the park of “el Retiro”, and looks specially nice at night.
