SUN´S DOOR
It is the absolute center of Madrid, one of the most popular meeting points in Madrid, as well as an important comercial area. In the past, it was the western entrance into Madrid, guarded by a door and a fortress, which a few centuries ago were replaced by several churches and convents. Its southern side is occupied by the headquarters of the Government of the Autonomous Community of Madrid (a building made of red bricks). On the top of this building there is a tower with clock donated by “Losada”. Every new year’s eve, thousands of people meet in this square in order to listen to the twelve strokes of this clock.. In the corner of the Carmen street it is posible to see the bear and the strawberry tree, which, together with the sculpture of the Cibeles square, integrate the coat of arms of Madrid.
