This small
city can justifiably pass as one of the most beautiful of the "Pais
Valenciano". Its white houses with no other finish than a simple
flat roof, crowd together in a limited strategic place which,in this
daring and singular position,allows a visible meeting of nature with
civilization.

If,
in other times,the castle and its palace were raised by the initiative
of the inmediate powers of the county and the Catalan-Aragonese crown-
whose presence still lives in a state of latency which only the language
lets one guess at-, the walls, which protect the city are owed, such as
we contemplate today, to the far interests of the monarchy of Felipe II.To
all mentioned to here, the history must add a new transcendental fact
for our rock and its surrounding, the vast touristic movement which have
found near the fortress an enviable resort of rest. |
