The castle, true origen of the urban formation of Peñiscola, was constructed as we see it today by the military orders of the Temple and Montesa and finally, by Benedicto XIII above the remains of the Arab fortress. The principle part of the work is of the first and last designes of the XIII and XIV centuries, once the anterior construction had been demolished.
