THE SHELL HOUSE
La casa de las Conchas (the Shell House) is one of the most emblematic buildings, in terms of civil art, from the period of the Catholic Kings, mixing Gothic ideas, Moorish and Italian. Its main decorative element are the shells, symbol of the Orden de Santiago, of which the founder of the building, Dr. Rodrigo Arias, was the chancellor. If you visit this city, don’t forget to observe the grilles of the windows in the ground floor,, given that they are considered to be the most beautiful ones from the Spanish Gothic period.
