Toledo is located on the top of a hill, and bordered by the Tajo river. Its streets and old buildings give prove of its rich and artistic past. The Romans built a fortress in the place that is occupied by the current fortress.The Visigoths settled down in this area during the 16th century, turning Toledo into their capital city.
			During the middle age, Toledo hosted three different cultures which shared the city in a peaceful way: Jewish, Christians and Muslims. It was in this period, that the construction of the cathedral was initiated. During the 16th century El Greco came to Toledo to paint the altarpiece of the Santo Domingo convent. Once there, fascinated by the city, he definity settled his residence in it, and developed religious paints for all the churches in the city.
